Parisian Charm In Vancouver's Newest Interior Design Shop
Curated Home By Chrissy & Co, Open!
It's been quite a journey getting to this point, but I'm very pleased to say that the doors to Curated Home By Chrissy & Co are open!
It didn't come without some challenges and in particular, one now humorous story of what was supposed to be an elegant trip to Paris gone sideways.
It all began shortly after my return from Paris and Italy last spring. As lovely as Paris is, it was one of the most exasperating trips I've endured. It just so happened to be when the Louvre was closed due to flooding. Yes... it was the worst flood that Europe had seen in over 100 years and I was there as a witness.
The weather was so incredibly atrocious that I had to cancel Venice which is heartbreaking as we had booked a corner suite on The Grand Canal. However, there is absolutely nothing glamorous about going for a gondola ride in the pouring rain while you're sick. Oh, did I forget to mention that my immune system decided to take a vacation on our flight to Paris? Yes, well... the months of planning an indulgent trip wasn't as fruitful as I had hoped. And, I can assure you that there is nothing relaxing about spending a small fortune on a private treatment suite at the Oriental Spa when your nose won't stop running. TMI? Maybe, but it's the reality of how my trip began. Needless to say, I was a little disappointed with mother nature's timing of the storm that rolled in as we landed and the handful of very sick passages who so kindly shared their flu with me. I could go on with some comically unfortunate events, including a landslide in Italy... however, that's not the emphasis of my blog today.
Thankfully, we hit the Louvre the day after we landed (I wasn't in my best shape) but it was a good thing we did as it closed the day after for the rest of the week. I was able to take some incredible photos of Napoleon's Apartment which were so awe-inspiring. He has certainly had an audacious and grandiose taste and frankly, its' not a style I would ever try and replicate but my god was there ever some awe-inspiring rooms to take in!
Treasure Hunting, Hidden Gems
The private walking tours and dinners on beautiful patios and the hair blow out and hot shave that my husband and I made were also all for not. When you're terribly ill and it's raining cats and dogs, beautiful hair has no redeeming qualities and it was far too cold and wet to be outdoors.
So... when life hands you limes and the weather is not permitting for margaritas, you drink champagne instead. Or, in my case, you drink champagne and extend your treasure hunting plans with your Parisian translator. Treasure hunting was the only thing that would warm my spirits. Thankfully my husband has a keen interest in my world of Interior Design and made for a wonderful shopping companion.
I went to town and bought some beautiful antique mirrors, charming Parisian chair frames that are over 100 years old and some other hidden gems which are all now in my shop.
How Curated Home By Chrissy & Co Was Born
A few weeks after my return from Europe I got the bug to go shopping for a retail space to call my own and when I saw the unit at 1637 on West 3rd Ave Vancouver BC, it was love at first sight. Not because the space was beautiful, on the contrary, the blue carpet, graffiti-style tiles, and hideous red floral wallpaper left much to be desired but it had great bones and I could see the potential the space had. It was going to be the best interior design and furniture boutique in Vancouver!
Buttons, who is my little mascot (red toy poodle) ran circles around the room as I was viewing the space and after a few minutes of silence, my first words were...' I want to write an offer'. I knew with 100% certainty that this was 'IT'. The layout allowed me the room required for a champagne fridge, VIP room, design studio, sitting area and enough wall room for art. What more could a girl ask for?
Five months of renovations later, oodles of curating beautiful pieces and designing my own line of furniture and area rugs and treasure hunting rare one of a kind gems, my chic little Vancouver boutique is now open and I couldn't be happier!
This is not a design studio. Although we do have a fabulous selection of curated fabrics, wallpaper and finishing materials. This is a white glove chic boutique that has an incredible array of furniture, art, lighting, decor, area rugs and even a lovely collection of exquisite candles.
It's a space for those seeking truly special pieces and exceptional white-glove service. It's a space that exudes elegance and excellence and one that pampers each guest with the utmost in customer service.
If I could have called by any other name, it would be 'The House of Velvet & Champagne'. However, my passion and talent aren't just in selecting beautiful velvet and sipping champagne with my clients (although I'm excellent at that), it's in curating beautiful spaces for my clients to call their home. So, my lovelies that is the story of how Curated Home By Chrissy & Co was born.
