Ever since I realized my full passion for interior design, I've always want to 'one day' have my own boutique, one day my own furniture line and possibly my own line of area rugs.. Fast forward nearly 9 years into my career and my dreams are becoming a reality and then some!
Surprise #1: I'm opening a really spectacular art gallery and home decor shop in Vancouver in the New Year.
It's been a top secret project for sometime but we are nearing completion and I can't wait for the big reveal! Having started my journey in this life as an artist, it only seemed fitting that this boutique be more than just another furniture shop. I love to paint and do a handful of custom pieces for my clients every year. I sold my first large commissioned painted for $1500 when I was 10 and I've been building my career as an artist ever since.
Although I absolutely love art (not just creating but also hunting), I knew I needed a career that would allow me to continue to constantly move forward and create without the typical art inspiration gap. Just as writers running into to a 'writers block' where they run out of ideas for content, so do artists.
What I love about interior design is that it is nearly impossible to run out of inspiration in this industry. Each project is beautifully unique as each project is one that is created from the inspiration of my clients individuality. Yes I've developed a 'style' but I refuse to have my project look like every other project I've done. I do what I do because I genuinely love helping people create homes that echo who they are and where they want to go.
Back to the point that I was trying to emphasize before I got a little distracted... art is a part of what make me... me. It's a part of my being, it makes me happy and so it was a natural progression that my boutique be one that offers beautifully curated pieces form some spectacular artists from around the globe. I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am to have two artists in Europe working on a special collection for my shop. One incredibly talented abstract portrait artist is from Paris and the other, an incredibly talented equestrian artist who's pieces are superbly avant garde. I will have some of my own works in the boutique as well with some abstract paintings and a collection of some photographic prints from my last trip to Paris but the emphasis is most defiantly on the artist who have captured my attention.
As a sometimes overly ambitious red head, when I get an idea in my mind, there's no stopping me. Part of the process of opening a shop is to curate some special pieces that can't be easily found. I really wanted to hunt down some unique furnishing lines and have some out of LA that I'm thrilled to carry but I wanted something that no one else would have and so...
Surprise #2: It only made sense that I design my own small line of furniture.
I've designed a lovely handful a beautiful sofas and chair frames that are inspired by long lost vintage frames. They are beautifully made in Ontario Canada to ensure the highest in quality and ethics. I'm so tired of 'made in China' products and I don't want all of our quality product to be imported from the US. As a result of the European immigration history of Eastern Canada, there are some extremely talented furniture makers in my own back yard, so I wanted to 'keep it local'. My pieces are set to arrive just in time for our opening and I couldn't be more thrilled.
I know what your thinking... how much more can one woman handle. I have the luxury of really loving what I do, so it gives me the fuel I need to work extremely long hours when I feel inspired to do the extraordinary. So... what would a chic home decor boutique be without a custom line of unique area rugs!
Surprise #3: Yes, it's happening...I've designed a small collection of really special area rugs.
Made with only top notch wools from New Zealand and Viscose/silk for a touch of elegant detail, this hand tufted (and knotted) line of area rugs are going to be stunning!
In additional to all of these beautiful boutique lines of art, furniture, area rugs and decor, I will have a handful of rare Paris antiques, vintage accessories that I've treasure hunted for our store as well as a spectacular line of toss pillows and beautiful imported candles from some really rare and chic suppliers.
